Follow Me

Where is your life headed? Do you feel like you are going in the right direction? We are constantly trying to better ourselves. But what do we ultimately need in our lives for fulfillment?

The Gospels show us the one thing to do that will guide us along the best and right path: following Jesus Christ.

Too often we find ourselves wrapped up in materialistic and selfish devices wherein we lose focus on our Lord and our ultimate goal of eternal life with Him in heaven. In the Gospel of Luke chapter 9 verses 51-62, Jesus tells us that we need to let go of physical and emotional attachments, without turning back, if we wish to follow Him. Are you ready to do that? Are you willing to do that? It is a challenging and uncomfortable concept to think about. We feel a sense of security with the people who are in our lives, we are happy and excited purchasing the newest “top of the line” electronic device, and we are overjoyed when we get a raise at our job. But do all of these things really matter in the end? We hold ourselves to such a high level of esteem and are laden with concern about what others think of us that we lose sight of our ultimate heavenly goal.

To help us with our goal of eternal life in heaven, we need to surround ourselves with people who are willing to help us on our journey and in turn we then try to take as many people as we can with us. If we find ourselves tempted by the newest gadget or with some extra funds in our pockets, reach out to charities or your church to help those who are less fortunate. Once we move our focus away from earthly securities, we will then be able to focus on doing good for others, while helping them, and ourselves, get to heaven.

Challenge yourself this week: think of all the things in your life that are hindering your journey to heaven. What are you doing to ensure an eternity in paradise?

Jesus said, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21)
